What's New

The High School admission season is in full swing in Rhode Island and Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Hope is eager and engaged to participate in this exciting process.  We will be visiting several Catholic middle schools in September and October and will be hosting our own Open House on October 23rd.  Learn more about our admissions process.

If you would like to make sure we are visiting your school please don't hesitate to reach out to us.  We also encourage and ask for your help in spreading the word to other parents who might not yet be familiar with us.

What is a Classical Education? (part 1)

In simple terms, a classical education means incorporation into the entire treasure of Catholic wisdom. Its goal is the goal of the Incarnation itself: To have life and to have it to the full.

Over the next five weeks we will send an email series on what makes an education “classical.” What exactly does that mean and why do we believe it is the superior form of schooling?

Can you tell me more about the partnership with Franciscan University?

Franciscan University and the Chesterton Network recently announced an exciting new partnership!  This partnership allows Juniors and Seniors at Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Hope to earn significant credits towards their college education.

Through the Franciscan Advantage program students can up to 36 credits prior to high school graduation.  These credits are earned through Chesterton Academy theology and philosophy courses and can be used towards a degree at Franciscan University, and in many cases are also transferrable to other colleges and universities. You can read more about this opportunity at the Franciscan Advantage program website.

G.K. Today

Life in death.  True God and true man.  Three persons, one nature.

The Christian religion is full of startling juxtapositions that challenge and captivate reason.

Little wonder, then, that one of its finest apologists - Gilbert Keith (“G.K.”) Chesterton - won renown for his keen sense of irony and conundrum.  “The riddles of God," he observed over a century ago, "are more satisfying than the solutions of man.”  And surely he was a riddler of God, who confounded and delighted the English-speaking world of the late 19th and early 20th centuries with his extraordinary arguments for Christ and Christian culture.

Yet G.K. was no mere quipster.  On the contrary, he was a philosopher of the ordinary, an "apostle of common sense," as Dale Ahlquist puts it.  His paradoxical formulations don’t stump and humiliate the intellect, but drive it to profound reflection by recasting worn ideas in surprising yet familiar terms.

That’s why he’s a fitting patron for our school.  We too wish to articulate timeless truths so that they startle and fascinate.

In this ongoing series, “G.K. Today,” we’ll explore the life, wit, and wisdom of our namesake.  We hope that, in doing so, you come to appreciate the portly sage of Beaconsfield, whose genius and joy inspire our mission and form our identity.
