Rev. John V. Doyle Memorial Scholarship
Amount: 4-year scholarship, $5,000 per academic year ($20,000 over student’s Chesterton enrollment)
Eligibility: 8th grade students attending Fr. John V. Doyle School or Homeschooling and a member of St. John and Paul Parish
Deadline: March 1st
This scholarship is established by an anonymous donor in remembrance of Reverend John V. Doyle(1914 to 2002) and to support students graduating from Fr. John V. Doyle School in Coventry, RI and Homeschooling families who are parishioners of St. John and Paul Church.
Fr. John V. Doyle was born in Woonsocket, was a graduate of Providence College, attended St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester, N.Y., and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Md, and was ordained on June 7, 1941.
On June 16, 1964, Bishop Russell J. McVinney appointed him to serve as pastor of SS. John & Paul Parish, in Coventry, where he oversaw the construction of the SS. John & Paul School and rectory in 1966.
Father Doyle was elected to several terms as a diocesan senator, served for many years as dean, and later as Episcopal Vicar of the Pawtuxet Valley. He also served as a spiritual leader for many years as chaplain of the Coventry Police Department. Fr. John V. Doyle was a faithful servant focused on Catholic education.
Eligibility Requirements:
Be currently enrolled in Fr. John V. Doyle School in Coventry, RI. or a homeschooling family and parishioner of St. John and Paul parish.
Be accepted to the Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Hope
