“To celebrate a festival means: to live out, for some special occasion and in an uncommon manner, the universal assent to the world as a whole.”
Josef Pieper
Dear families,
The last few weeks leading up to Christmas break were filled with blessings and beautiful events. To name just a few things, we've celebrated our Lessons and Carols, students performed of A Christmas Carol, volunteers hosted a St. Nicholas Day Party for the grand open opening of our St. John Vianney school library, applicants took their entrance exams, we enjoyed a Frasatti Friday, winter dance, student gave presentations on Dostoevsky and Thomas More, and we started our Diaper Drive for Our Lady of Guadalupe. All of these things express the value that begins our Knight's Code: "We affirm the created world as the fruit of God's abundant goodness."
At home, as we celebrate Christmas and the new year with our families, we can rejoice in the fact that our celebration is not a "break" or "unplugging" from reality, it is itself a deep and genuine prayer. When we celebrate, we acknowledge that the goodness of things does not depend on our hard work. It is sheer gift. Our great tradition teaches us that, just as we delight when someone rejoices in our gift to them, the Lord also rejoices when we receive His good gifts.
This Christmas season, may the light of Christ enlighten our homes and our hearts more and more.
