Dear friends of Chesterton,
A visitor to the school this week observed a few classes, celebrated Mass with us, and enjoyed lunch with our students and faculty. As he was leaving, he looked me in the eye and said, “I saw the Chesterton videos online, and I said, ‘If that’s real, I want my family to be a part of that.’ What I have seen here today convinced me it’s real. You are doing that and more. Thank you.”
I was encouraged to hear this perspective. A head of school can easily get into the habit of focusing only on the things that need improvement, and in any school, there are always plenty of those. (More on some of our recent improvements below!)
But I was also moved. Our own faculty had just completed a professional development trip, and had had the same experience. We had been inspired by a community of young men and women, with their teachers, living out a vision of the human person that can truly change the world.
The Lord is using Classical, Catholic schools to foster communities that live a real culture of life – communities that are so intentionally and joyfully liberated from our culture’s characteristic challenges that you have to see them to believe. These are places where conversions happen, where children grow to mature adulthood, where friends gather around the most beautiful things God and human beings have made and delight in them together.
What our guest saw was not perfection. It was our vision, and our commitment to bringing it ever more fully to life – our vision of what it means to be fully alive and truly free, to live daily in a community where we learn to love the truth and follow Christ ever more fully.
We invite you to take the opportunity to visit us and experience this community too!
Rise up, Knights!
Gratefully yours in Christ,
Robert Duffy, PhD
Headmaster
